How to Set Up Your eBay Seller Preferences
Now that eBay seller account is created, the next step is to set up your eBay seller preferences. These settings help you avoid scams, control where you ship, and make your selling process smooth and stress‑free.
This guide keeps everything simple, clear, and beginner‑friendly.
✅ Step 1 to set up your eBay seller preferences: Turn On Seller Hub
Seller Hub is your control center for selling on eBay. It gives you:
- Listing tools
- Order management
- Analytics and performance insights
- Message organization
To enable it:
Go to My eBay → Selling and click the option to turn on Seller Hub.
✅ Step 2: Set Your Shipping Preferences
Shipping is one of the most important parts of selling. You can set your default preferences so every listing starts with the right settings.
Inside your account settings, you can choose:
- Your preferred carriers (USPS, UPS, FedEx)
- Your handling time (1–3 days is common)
- Whether you offer free shipping or calculated shipping
- Whether you ship internationally
Tip: I recommend that you start with USPS Ground Advantage for lightweight items and FedEx or UPS for heavier items.
✅ Step 3: Set Buyer Requirements
eBay allows you to block certain buyers to protect yourself from common issues.
You can block buyers who:
- Have unpaid item strikes
- Live in locations you don’t ship to
- Have a history of violating eBay policies
This helps prevent headaches before they happen.
✅ Step 4: Set Up Your Return Preferences
You can choose whether or not you accept returns. Options include:
- No returns
- 30‑day returns
- 60‑day returns
Offering returns can increase sales. Please note that you will still be required to issue refunds to buyers under certain circumstances. (More on that in a future post)
✅ Step 5: Customize Your Seller Profile
Your profile helps build trust with buyers. You can add:
- A short bio
- A profile photo (optional)
- Your store name (if you have one)
Example bio:
“I specialize in finding great deals, restoring quality items, and giving forgotten treasures a second life. Fast shipping and honest listings every time.”
✅ Your Seller Preferences Are Now Set
Your account is now fully prepared for selling. The next step is the fun part: listing your first item.
